Why I Picked My Title Quote.

“Keep your face always towards the sunshine and the shadows will fall behind you.”- Walt Whitman.

When I first thought about creating a blog, I knew that the first step was to know what I wanted to blog about. The more I thought about it, the clearer it became that I had NO CLUE. I mean come on!? What advice or skill do I have that anyone would ever want to know? I thought about everything that I could possibly offer and the things that I liked reading. I knew that I wanted my blog to be happy place, filled with randomness, that people enjoyed coming to. The first thing that came to mind was sunshine.

As I searched for quotes that would fit the theme and vibe that  I was going for, I stumbled upon that amazing Walt Whitman quote. “Keep your face always towards the sunshine and the shadows will fall behind you”. Those words really reminded me of everything that I strive to live by. Being positive even in the face of distress is such a hard thing to do for so many of us.

In this age of hurry and turmoil, we often forget to just breathe. We get so stressed out and consumed with things that don’t really matter. If only we just stopped to point our face towards the sunshine… If we let all of our troubles fall behind and focused on the joy and hope of the morning.  It’s just so easy to turn away from the sun and focus on the shadows and darkness. Sometimes when we’ve lived in darkness for so long the sun seems too bright to grasp. But through patience and a whole lot of prayer, anyone can face the sunshine and let their shadows go.

Thank you so much for listening to my little ramble!

Berri-licious Ice Dessert

Well hey y’all! The other day I was in the need of a frozen treat. Yes, yes. I know it’s almost January. But anyways I opened up my freezer and decided a simple, fruity italian ice would be the way to go.

So I happened to have this great blend of frozen fruit called Welch’s Antioxidant Fruit Blend (thanks mom) and some Northland Cranberry Blackberry juice.

I took a heaping cup of the frozen fruit, 1/3 of a cup of the juice, 1 teaspoon of agave nectar,

pulsed it all in the food processor, put it in the freezer over night, and…. BAM! The most amazing homemade “italian ice” ever.

I know sometimes when I try to make a healthy desert or something, it tastes “too healthy” to feel like a true desert. But let me tell you. For a three ingredient, super fast and simple treat, this stuff was goooooood (I may be being a bit obsessive lol).

Hope you all enjoy this is simple treat as much I did!  See ya later;)

Calming Green Tea Oat Face Mask

Hello folks! Welcome to my very first blog post. Like ever.

Last night I was super board. So I thought “why not make a face mask!?”. I set out my record player, put on some Frank Sinatra, and set out to create my very own oat mask.

Green tea is used a lot in skin products to soothe the skin and remove those under eye bags (no one likes those). So I started out my concoction by steeping one of my fav loose leaf green teas.

For this recipe I used Trader Joe’s Coconut Green Tea. It has lemongrass and ginger which I love a lot.

Then I added the tea (make sure your save the leaves;) to some Old-Fashioned oats, mixed it, and let the combo sit for a few minutes. After the oats were soft I mashed them to make more of a paste.

To my oat/tea mix, I added honey, my tea leaves from earlier, lavender oil, and coconut oil and mixed it all up.

I know It’s gross looking but trust me lol.

Take your amazing gunk and transfer it into a food processor and blend until it’s a pasty, creamish, gunk type texture (sorry for the gross description).

After that I put mine in a mason jar with a lid and let it sit overnight. When it’s all done, the texture should be very similar to mashed up, cold oatmeal. Delicious am I right!?

After it has been in the fridge for a few hours, it should be ready to apply! Because of the texture, you won’t be able to spread it like a typical mask. Just take a large amount and message it into your face in a circular motion. I let mine sit for about 15 minutes and then removed it will a damp wash rag.

Afterwards my face felt and still feels FANTASTIC! I feel like the mask really exfoliated, tightened, smoothed, and softened my skin all at once. It was also really soothing and just a great everyday type of mask. It also made my face smell like a field of lavender which is always great;)

So thank you so much for taking the time to read my post (horrendous pictures and all)! You can let me know what you think and/or any improvements you made to the mask in the comments:)
